Even Blake Shelton seemed surprised that his duet with girlfriend Gwen Stefani was available on Monday morning (May 9). "It's out?!!! Yay!!!" the country star tweeted when he realized that "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" had made its way onto iTunes.

The four-and-a-half minute song will appear on Shelton's upcoming 10th album, If I'm Honest, due out May 20. Stefani revealed the track title last month, and the pair is slated to perform it live for the first time on Monday night's episode of The Voice. The midtempo country song finds both singers hesitant about jumping into something new in the wake of still-fresh heartbreak.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani to Perform Duet on 'The Voice'

"The sun is setting on your last good try/ Here I am again with half a goodbye," Shelton sings. "Wonder if you're really gone this time/ Just when I'm about to lose my mind." A short time later he wonders if, "Maybe we could just hang awhile/ Maybe we can make each other smile."

Stefani -- who makes a very credible foray into twangier singing without abandoning her signature poppy hiccup voice -- is equally gun-shy, singing, "I never meant to get so into you/ Thought I was using you just to get me through/ You know I'm broken, I don't trust anyone/ Last thing I needed was to fall in love." And then they join voices on the confessional heartbreak chorus: "You can't tell me baby that we'll still be friends/ That maybe someday we can try again/ If you really need a brand new start/ Why don't you go ahead and break my heart."
