Mark Hamill spends Star Wars Day with hospitalized children

The Force is strong with Mark Hamill. He also has a huge heart.

The actor, best known around the globe for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars sage, spent Wednesday visiting hospitalized children in London as part of the Force for Change charity program.

A visit by Hamill would have been special any day for a child, but it was even more so Wednesday because it was May 4, or Star Wars Day.

"May The 4th Be With My New Best Friends at Guy Hospital Sharing stories, laughs & #Ep8 Spoilers!" Hamill wrote on Twitter.

The 64-year-old actor posted numerous pictures on his social media accounts of himself with the young patients, all of whom had huge smiles.

In an editorial he also wrote Wednesday for the U.K. newspaper, The Sun, Hamill said one of his greatest joys in life has been making children, especially those hospitalized, happy.

"It's an honour to be able to visit them and see the joy something as simple as a movie can bring them," Hamill wrote. "In contrast, my day job of acting seems so trivial."

Hamill is currently shooting Episode VIII in London.

He returned to the role that made him famous for the box office record-breaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Even though he was only in one scene for a few moments and said nothing, the plot of the film, and much of the buzz around the movie, centered on Luke Skywalker.
