Boring is banned on fashion's biggest night.

"For the Met Ball, it's about fashion and anything goes," says celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose.

Every year, the Met Ball, which takes place the first Monday in May, has a theme. And this year's is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. All the proceeds benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Anna Wintour Costume Center. (See our interview with superstar stylist Rachel Zoe above).

Some stars bring it. And others -- well, they're on a whole other level. And our favorite, when it comes to going all out, is Sarah Jessica Parker, the queen of Philip Treacy's outlandish, extravagant headgear.

Here she is at the gala in honor of China: Through the Looking Glass, in 2015, in an an H&M dress.

And she brings the wow factor again in 2013, this time following the theme of Punk: Chaos to Couture in a Giles gown.
