Avocados are killing it. Between guacamole, avocado toast, green smoothies, and more, this produce darling has taken the world by storm, and we can't get enough. If there's avocado involved, we want it.
The latest avocado treat we're obsessed with? Spicy avocado fries: Crispy, yet tender, they're packed with that satisfying French fry flavor and four wedges are under 200 calories. So if you're watching your calories, these bad boys are the perfect afternoon snack. They take hardly any time to whip up, so they're also a great last-minute party appetizer idea.
Making them is easy: All you need to start is two avocados. Slice them up, dip them in an egg wash, and coat them in one seriously addictive spicy panko breadcrumb mix. Then, give them a quick vegetable oil spray, and toss them in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Finally, top them with hot sauce and dig in. (And feel free to go crazy with your best can I Hass some more jokes!)
Follow the instructions in the video above and let's get cooking!
- 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons ground flax
- 1 teaspoon mild chili powder
- 1 egg
- 2 peeled avocados
- Vegetable oil cooking spray
- Hot sauce
Heat oven to 400°. In a bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, flax and chili powder. In another bowl, whisk the egg. Cut avocados into 16 wedges, dip wedges in egg, press into breadcrumb mixture and transfer to a baking sheet. Coat with vegetable oil cooking spray. Bake until outside is crispy, 10 to 12 minutes. Season with salt and drizzle with hot sauce. See the original recipe here.
