5 things we learned from 'X-Men: Apocalypse' final trailer (Photos)

Twentieth Century Fox debuted the final trailer for "X-Men: Apocalypse" on Monday, and the biggest preview yet did not disappoint — especially since it teased Wolverine clawing his way through a battalion of bad guys.

While previous marketing materials for the latest installment of the blockbuster franchise focused on the eponymous villain played by Oscar Isaac, the third trailer showcased the new cast of young, but familiar mutants, including Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jeanne Grey (Sophie Turner) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee).

There was a lot of new information jam-packed into the 2-and-a-half-minute peek at "Apocalypse," so TheWrap is breaking it down by sharing 5 things we learned about the May 27 release.

1. Professor Xavier Gets Captured and Mystique Takes Charge

This plot point was hinted at in previous trailers that showed Charles getting ripped away from his X-Men outside Cerebro by Apocalypse and his gang of powerful disciples, but clarified in this one by a line from Hank McCoy (Nicholas Hoult). "They took him, Raven. The world needs the X-Men," he says.

Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) seems reluctant to become a hero, but steps up to the plate to lead the young group of students who will graduate to full-time superheroes by the end of the movie.

"Forget everything you think you know. None of that matters," the shapeshifter tells her pupils. "You're not students anymore. You're X-Men."

2. Cyclops and Storm Will Battle

And it will likely be a climactic moment for the characters who eventually join forces as members of the same team. But in "Apocalypse," Storm is under the influence of En Sabah Nur, the oldest and most powerful mutant on the planet. Fans will get to see what's stronger: A lightning blast from Storm or a laser blast from Cyclops.

3. Quicksilver Knows Magneto Is His Dad

The super-fast mutant, who was easily the best addition to the franchise in "Days of Future Past," is back for more action, and he's completely aware Michael Fassbender's character shacked up with his mom. Previously, Quicksilver only noted that his mom knew a guy who could control metal when he learned what Magneto's power was.

"I'm not afraid of him," Quicksilver (Evan Peters) tells Mystique. "Magneto is my father." His clarification about what that means ("Him and my mom, they did it.") suggests the character's comedic timing will remain intact, even as the world is being destroyed.

4. William Stryker Is Back

For what? We're not sure. But there's only a quick shot of the government bad guy who helped Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) take on mutants in "Days of Future Past."

One theory: Since the film is set before the first "X-Men" movie, which featured flashbacks of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) escaping from a facility that coated his bones with adamantium, perhaps the young group of inexperienced heroes will stumble upon Stryker's Weapon X project at the very moment an angry Logan breaks free.

5. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters Will Burn

The film's title and marketing campaign have already made it clear there will be a lot of destruction in "Apocalypse," but the latest trailer reveals the mansion Xavier and his students call home will be among the casualties of war. The screengrab above makes it look like some young mutants will also be lost in the blast — unless those shots of Quicksilver speeding around the property are any indication that he saves the day.
