Melissa McCarthy became the first woman to receive MTV's Comedic Genius Award on Sunday.

After crowd-surfing to the stage, she accepted the award from hosts Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart (who she called "Mr. Rock Johnson" and "The Rock's assistant").

McCarthy thanked the female comedians who inspired her, including SNL's Jane Curtin, Lucille Ball, Phyllis Diller and Whoopi Goldberg. She also thanked her mother, who she said taught her to "not to fear being the butt of the joke" and to "lovingly go for the kill."

Though she was the first woman to win the award, "I am certainly not the first one to deserve it," she told the crowd on the Warner Bros. lot. McCarthy also thanked "every single person who buys a ticket for one my movies or watches my shows," for being the reason she can keep doing what she loves.

And on a possibly political note, she ended her speech, saying "Who knew Bruce Springsteen could get even cooler?" The note to her fellow Boss was a possible nod to the performer's recent decision to cancel his concert in North Carolina in response to the state's legislation that has been accused of being anti-gay.

The Boss star has a busy schedule this year. She stars in this summer's Ghostbusters reboot and recently revealed that she's returning to Netflix's Gilmore Girls revival.

The MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, aired Sunday, April 10 on MTV. Hart won the Comedic Genius Award in 2015.
