Zuri Hall may have only made it big in the television business four years ago, but the newcomer has already dominated the industry, proving that she's a pop culture powerhouse to be reckoned with. Just one year after she graduated from Ohio State, Hall won her first Emmy Award. Since then, she's scored impressive correspondent gigs with MTV, VHS, FUSE TV, and most recently, E! News. But Hall doesn't just have her eyes set on the big screen.
She's also been conceptualizing, filming, editing, and starring in her own YouTube videos and consistently writing about her career and life advice in her blog. Her fan-favorite YouTube channel may have had a modest start as just another side project for Hall, but fast forward a few years and four million video views later, it's proving to be a huge creative outlet. After speaking with Hall, it's clear that she has even bigger plans for the platform, transforming it into networking events and conferences aimed to help women feel more confident in their bodies and their careers.
At rate she is going, Hall is poised to be one of the biggest influencers on-screen and off. So if you haven't had a chance to familiarize yourself with the incredible TV personality, now's your chance. We spoke exclusively to Zuri Hall about her career advice, what led to the creation of her YouTube channel and more.
And if you want even more Zuri Hall news, head over to AOL.com at 6 p.m. ET to see more exclusive features, including why she created the #AlphaBabe movement.
What has the experience been like for you learning the ropes in your career from other people in your industry?
The biggest thing that I learned that I was here for a reason --- and when I mean me, I mean all of us. When you get to that level, something got you there. When you first show up, maybe you second guess yourself. And while of course there are small ways you can be growing and evolving as a professional, the best thing is to trust your intuition. Even when I would ask some of the bigger names for advice or things to keep in mind, they would say, "Listen, you're here just like I am and there's a reason they hired you, so don't second guess yourself now! Keep doing whatever it is that go you this far." So really the biggest takeaway I've gotten from everyone is to keep being myself and to let anything negative slide off your back. You always get opinions from other people and it might not always be a good one, but at the end of the day, if your network is behind you, just keep reminding yourself they chose you for a reason.
That's also a great motto in general for life!
It's so easier said than done by just saying "Oh be yourself!" But in a world where people are telling you to be something else and they keep telling you what's cool or how to fit in, it's really hard to do that.
"...in a world where people are telling you to be something else and they keep telling you what's cool or how to fit in, it's really hard to do that."
How do you find the balance between your day job as on television and keeping up with your social channels?
Well for me, the balance is key. But even more so, it is about prioritizing everything so nothing falls by the wayside. And if I feel that at any given point if I'm not balanced, I have to figure out what comes first. For me, E! News hands down comes first. That's what I'm most passionate about on a daily basis and then when I find myself with extra time to spare I think how else can I be creative. That's where social media -- especially YouTube -- comes into play.
For me, I've made a promise to myself to make a certain amount of content. I just decide that I want a new video to go up once very two weeks. So I give myself 14 days and If I have some time on a lunch break or time on a Saturday, I use it for that. It's really organized chaos. I used to burn myself on both ends of the ropes, but I realized that having an amazing career isn't worth it if I'm not going to be able to enjoy it. So for me, a lot of my life is about doing what I can and keeping busy but checking in with myself and making sure I feel mentally good.
So did the creation of your YouTube page really come from a desire for a new creative outlet?
That's what it is! I started it when I was still in local news. So I climbed up the local news ladder and by the time I got to Dallas Texas, I was anchoring this evening news cast every night Monday through Friday for a 5 o'clock show and a 9 o'clock show. And even though it was for a younger demographic it was still hard news. So you're talking about heavy stuff: death, destructions, crime. And it's important things to talk about but I didn't want to lose my creative, fun, side so I decided to make my YouTube channel because it would help connect me with my audience and give me the opportunity to talk about what I wanted to talk about.
The channel also keeps me sharp. I don't write any of my YouTube scripts verbatim or down on paper but I have general outline. So when I was in Dallas it was cool because I could be goofy and let it out when I couldn't necessarily do that on the 9 o'clock news. It just grew into something so amazing and these girls really have a direct line to me now. They ask me questions and they ask me for advice. It's so fun and I really love it. I do it really because I enjoy it and it seems to be helping people -- and that is pretty priceless.

If you know me well or have read interviews I’ve done then you know that @marthastewart has always been my biggest inspiration when it comes to food. One of my goals is to be a combination of my two idols- Martha and Andy Warhol. As a child I would dream about spending the time and care like her to prepare a table, creating something very special for people to join around and share a meal. Watching her cook inspired me to teach myself how to hand weigh ingredients, to always have my mise en place organized, how to pronounce words like vichyssoise, and her wide usage of produce variety is honestly a large part of where my curiosity for our food sparked from. With this said, I’m sure you can imagine my surprise when I was told that I was one of the 25 creatives @marthastewart is inspired by in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Thank you for helping me think and dream so big Martha, I am honored to share this and to make you all of the colors. #25yearsofmartha #foodgradients
I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself. I’m Brittany and I recognize that I seem to do a decent job of not sharing much about my actual self here or in interviews. I prefer to keep my art about the food and not myself. This community and my photography have become the biggest part of my life, I love it more than I have words to explain but there's more that makes me who I am. So for a quick moment here’s a bit- I’m 24, a taurus, live in Seattle but grew up in San Diego, my favorite food is a cheeseburger (super thin patty, toasted bun), my favorite bands are @stygoc and @metric, my first tattoo was the one on chest- it’s still my favorite and says ‘love your life’, something many people sadly forget. I was raised by my grandparents, I love to make small collections of items like rocks and stickers, I grew up playing a lot of sports competitively, I love Star Wars and have Boba Fett tattooed on my arm but Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is my favorite movie. Many times I have been told that being an artist “can’t be a real job” and that I was wasting my time trying to do so. I smile everyday not because I proved them wrong but because I achieved a goal. Dream big, everyone.
Thought I might start this week off with a past candy photo. Here's to hoping you all have the best days ahead! #foodgradients
