Donald Trump has come to his own defense to set the record straight on his respect for women.

In a series of three consecutive tweets early Saturday morning, the GOP presidential candidate told his 7.25 million followers that "Nobody has more respect for women than Donald Trump!"

"The media is so after me on women Wow, this is a tough business," he tweeted, followed by his claim that he has the most respect for women.

The billionaire businessman also quoted the tweets of two Twitter users who defended Trump's support of and respect for women.

"'@Tytan01: Dear @CNN, after doing a quick Google & Twitter search there are over 15,000 women's groups supporting DonaldTrump. Stop Lying,'" the first tweet reads, followed an hour later by "'@pattiandsammi: @gullakhta99 @realDonaldTrump @Tytan01 @CNN WOMEN LOVE TRUMP. TRUMP'S EXECS PREDOMINANTLY FEMALE. #WOMEN4TRUMP.'"

Trump has come under fire at multiple points during his campaign trail for his comments on women, including the August 2015 Republican debate when he responded to Megyn Kelly's statement "You've called women you don't like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals" with "Only Rosie O'Donnell."

In September, Trump was also criticized for saying of former GOP candidate Carly Fiorina, "Lookat that face! Would anyone vote for that?"
