Montgomery County Police Officers Cody Fields and Brian Nesbitt were recently awarded the Medal of Valor in Maryland—the most prestigious award handed out by their department.

On September 1, 2015, the duo responded to a traffic accident on Interstate 495.

As Officer Fields arrived first, he came upon a car already in flames. The driver was inside and unconscious.

Dashcam footage recently released by the department shows Officer Fields' arrival.

He rushes out of his cruiser, towards the burning car and ultimately breaks open a window.

Officer Nesbitt arrives soon thereafter and both men briefly struggle to remove the still-unconscious driver.

Ultimately, all three made it out alive.
