Man Attempts to Smuggle Cocaine-Filled Cakes Through JFK

JAMAICA, Queens — A passenger was arrested after JFK airport officials found $33,000 worth of cocaine hidden inside cakes while they were searching through his luggage, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

Jesus Martinez Ramirez arrived at JFK from Mexico City on March 1. While his luggage was going through the x-ray machine, Customs officers spotted an "anomaly" inside the cakes, officials said.

They opened up his bag and discovered five cakes that were filled with 2 pounds of cocaine.

Ramirez was arrested and faces state narcotics smuggling charges.
