A country legend breaks down over the death of Joey Feek
Back in 2008, Joey+Rory was just one of a whole group of contestants on the show "Can You Duet." Each and every week, they would compete to share their distinctive melodies in front of a trio of judges holding their professional future in their hands.
One of those judges was Naomi Judd.
"The very first day of shooting Joey walked up to me and handed me her home made pecan roll," Naomi wrote in a March 7 Facebook post. "Even before I heard them sing I knew there was something special about her and Rory."
Indeed, Joey+Rory would finish the show in third place and soon after release their debut single, "Cheater, Cheater," which featured a cameo by Naomi herself. Yet, the future of the country duo was cut tragically short after Joey's death on March 4.
"Joey battled cancer for so long and she was so brave it was astounding," Naomi added. "I can hardly wrap my mind around the idea that she is gone. All I can think right now is too young, too sweet, too important to her family, too kind, too special to her fans, so talented. Why her. She was a bright light in my life and I will miss her so much."
