An unidentified Brazilian man was caught being smuggled inside of an SUV's gas tank compartment while attempting to cross the California-Mexico border on March 1.

The Toyota Sequoia was being driven by an American citizen and stopped around 3:15 a.m.

The car and driver were then diverted for further inspection by an officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Next, an imaging system revealed "anomalies" in the gas tank and under the rear seats.

The 38-year-old Brazilian man was extracted from the altered gas tank soon thereafter.

Authorities note he had no legal right to enter the U.S. and that both men are currently incarcerated; one facing deportation, the other facing federal charges.
