Officials Allegedly Investigating Knife Found On O.J. Simpson's Property

By JOHN DORN

Los Angeles police confirmed Friday morning that a suspicious knife was found on property that formerly belonged to O.J. Simpson.

TMZ had reported that a local construction worked had found a knife years ago, and gave it to a police officer working security at the time. Since retired, the office was recently ordered to turn over the knife to authorities in January of this year, according to TMZ's law enforcement sources.

It's possible that the knife was discovered by the construction worker during the demolition of Simpson's estate in 1998. The officer that later obtained it -- instead of turning it in for further review -- kept it at his home for the past several years. It wasn't until he retired that he contacted a friend in the Robbery Homicide Division, to obtain the departmental record number for the infamous Simpson case.

TMZ reports the officer tried to obtain the record number because he wanted to frame the knife.

The officer's friend proceeded to alert the department, then demanded the knife be surrendered for investigation.

The report also claims that there's blood residue on the knife.

Simpson's case is now the subject of FX's television series "American Crime Story." The 68-year-old is currently incarcerated in Nevada on armed robbery and kidnapping charges, where he was sentenced to 33 years imprisonment in 2008.
