Mother wants to know why her son was punished by being placed in a box

Mom Says Teachers Put Son in a Box as Punishment

ALHAMBRA, IL (KTVI) - An Illinois mother is angry after she claims her 8-year-old son received extreme punishment from his elementary school. The boy is a second grade student at Alhambra Elementary School in Madison County.

FOX2 was told the child was disciplined for talking in class by placing a box around him, isolating him from the rest of the class for a month.

The boy's mother, Melody Haller took a picture of the box and showed it to FOX2.

Haller claims she was never informed by the school her son was in trouble. Haller says the punishment was outside the normal scope of discipline.

Late Wednesday afternoon the school district released a statement in regards to the allegations and it reads in part:

"We are investigating every aspect of the concerns and will take the appropriate action once we conclude our investigation".

Haller says students should be punished for breaking the rules, but that schools should review their policies and make sure that they are fair.
