While the person in the casket was wearing the clothes they'd dropped off for the viewing, she was a complete stranger, reports WRC.
The deceased, Virginia Gray, had passed about a week prior after collapsing in her home.
She was transported to the Prince George's Hospital Center, but could not be saved.
Arrangements were made by her relatives to hold a viewing at Horton's Funeral Home in Maryland.
The family is still trying to learn how another woman ended up in the grandmother's place.
The hospital said it is looking into the matter, but the funeral home has yet to publicly address the issue, reports the Daily Mail.
