It was all about remembering.

Dave Grohl gave a special performance of "Blackbird" during the 88th Academy Awards' in memoriam tribute on Sunday evening.

The Foo Fighters lead singer, who was clad in a simple black shirt and jeans and seated on a stool, played the guitar as he sang an emotional version of Paul McCartney's song while photos of stars we lost this year played behind him. Big names like Alan Rickman, Dean Jones, Leonard Nimoy, David Bowie and James Horner were among the memorable stars we lost -- but without a doubt there were dozens of incredibly talented entertainment professionals who were honored.

Grohl's Academy Award debut was definitely memorable. It was the first he has appeared on the stage and he was applauded by the entire audience.
