William Singe dishes about receiving Twitter love from 1D's Liam Payne

Updated

William Singe's unique covers have attracted more than just 3.5 social media followers -- they have also captured the attention of some of the music industry's biggest names. Case in point: back in October, One Direction's Liam Payne tweeted at the Aussie singer/songwriter in the hopes of collaboration. Pretty incredible, right?

So when Singe visited our New York City offices during a pitstop from his first US tour, we spoke to him about this "surreal" moment and his initial reactions. For all of those William Singe and 1D super-fans out there, while nothing is in the works (yet), we're still keeping our fingers crossed.

To find out Singe's reaction to the news, who he would love to work with, and more, read the full interview below!

So you've had a lot of big names in the industry, like One Direction's Liam Payne, reaching out to you. What's your reaction when people of that caliber ask to collaborate with you?
It's crazy, but at the same time, people shouting you out is just them shouting you out. It's not doing much for you besides putting you the spotlight. I got a lot of hate from that One Direction tweet, there was a lot of One Directioners saying "I can't believe he's leaving One Direction for this guy" and it wasn't that way at all. He was reaching out, and I've talked to him a few times. I ended up giving him my number and I was casually talking to Liam Payne on the phone, but I think it's a bit too glitz and glam. People freak out and say, "This is crazy that it happened to you", but I still have to pay the bills. Tweets don't help me pay the bills unfortunately. But it's really reassuring at the same time, and for people who I look up to, to say they want to work with me, is surreal.

Are there any people that maybe haven't reached out to you yet, that you're dying to work with?
My dream collaborations are pretty far fetched, like D'Angelo; his "Voodoo" album is my favorite of all time. And just the musician he works with in general, like Quest Love or Pino Palladino, people like that. Drake, Justin Bieber, Diplo, are also people I like to work with. Plus all of the people involved SOULECTION; that is SoundCloud account for producers like Sango, and I love the uniqueness of those SoundCloud producers.
