Woman Gets Valentine's Day Surprise After Husband Passes Away

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) -– Geraldine Dixon always looked forward to the chocolates her husband MacArthur would get her on Valentine's Day.

"My husband always gave me candy," Dixon said.

This year, she got her candy, but it was bittersweet.

A group of pint-sized cupids from the Family and Children's association of Long Island paid Geraldine a much-needed Valentines visit.

"They brought me all these cards, and bears and kisses. And I love em," she said.

This is the first year Geraldine is spending without her true love after 51 years of marriage.

This past January, her husband MacArthur passed away from Alzheimer's disease.

"I thought I could really handle it, but when you lose him, it's different," she said.

During MacArthur's decline in health, Geraldine turned to the Family and Children's Association for help and resources on how to cope with his illness.

When they heard of his passing, they decided now is the time to demonstrate what Valentine's Day is really all about.

"And I didn't even think about the sad time I was going through. My life just lit up. I love love. And that's what I needed. It was a lot of love today," she said.
