Karim Benzema nearly causes car crash (Video)

Benzema Has Quietly Put Up Some Impressive Numbers

Karim Benzema has done his best to stay out of the spotlight in recent weeks, after being involved in a blackmail case involving his French teammate, Mathieu Valbuena. The drama over the sex tape seems to have quieted down and with Zinedine Zidane now running the show at Real Madrid; Benzema's club are finally starting to look like one of the world's most prestigious clubs again.

Los Blancos defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-2 on Saturday, and are in the midst of preparations for their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash with Roma on Tuesday. However, things nearly took a drastic turn on Sunday, when Benzema almost caused a serious car accident while leaving the Real Madrid training facility on Sunday. The Frenchman may be forgiven for being distracted by the cameras, but as he waved to one he almost crashed into a blue Ford.

According to a report from Sport English, the driver of the blue Ford was furious after the near collision and ended up following the striker on the road. The Spanish outlet also reported that Benzema has run into several problems while behind the wheel, being caught speeding and making an illegal turn.

Real Madrid currently sit third in the La Liga table, behind both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. While they have failed to make up much ground under Zidane's tutelage, they also remain undefeated since the French legend took over for Rafa Benitez. They travel to the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday to take on Roma at 2:45 p.m. ET.
