Sam Hunt's 'Montevallo' hits 1 million sold in the U.S.
Sam Hunt claims his first million-selling album, as Montevallo stepped past the million sales threshold in the tracking week ending Jan. 28.
The album -- his first full-length studio effort -- sold another 7,000 copies in the frame ending Jan. 28, according to Nielsen Music, bringing its total sales to 1.003 million. The MCA Nashville-released set is the first country album to sell a million copies in the U.S. since the week ending July 23, 2015, when Jason Aldean's Old Boots, New Dirt crossed the million mark.
Montevallo has spawned three No. 1 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart: "Leave the Night On," "House Party" and "Take Your Time." It additionally notched a No. 2 hit with "Break Up in a Small Town." All four singles also reached the top 40 of the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Montevallo was released Oct. 28, 2014, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and has been among the top 50 albums on the weekly chart in every one of its 66 chart weeks. On the latest chart, dated Feb. 13, it climbs 24-21.
Hunt closed out 2015 atop many of Billboard's year-end charts, thanks to the success of his Montevallo effort and its songs. The album was No. 1 on the year-end Top Country Albums chart, while "Take Your Time" was the biggest Hot Country Songs title of the year.
In more recent news, Hunt is nominated for two 2015 Grammy Awards -- best country album (Montevallo) and best new artist. The Grammy Awards will be presented on Feb. 15, and Hunt will be on hand at the CBS-broadcast show, performing in collaboration with Carrie Underwood.
