Father, Son Survive Near Miss When Large Rock Smashes Windshield

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Driving home from their overnight shift, a father and son faced what felt like certain death. A large rock crashed through their windshield, but they say it was no accident.

On their normal route home from the overnight shift in Claycomo, Todd Dobbins and his son were driving on I-435 south under the 83rd Street overpass.

"Happened to look up and saw a silhouette of a guy with his hands over his head, and I yelled something, and my son looked up and saw it and he was able to cover up his face with his hands," said Dobbins.

Seconds later, he said a large rock or piece of concrete came crashing onto the hood of their truck, and nearly through the windshield.

"If we hadn`t hit the brakes, the rock probably would have come straight through the window," Dobbins explained.

Glass came pouring into the cab of the truck.

"It was like a shotgun going off or something. It was really, really loud, it was a horrific sound," Dobbins said.

The two men were okay, but confused and angry.

"It`s crazy. Almost like attempted murder or something," he said.

Now, the men are worried the same person who threw the rock off this deserted overpass will do it again. Because Dobbins says this isn't child's play.

"I could see someone up there throwing eggs or a marble or something, but not a 10-pound chunk of concrete," Dobbins said.

If there's a next time, the victims may not live to tell their story. Dobbins said police told him someone else reported a similar situation at the same general time and the same location Monday as well. So he's concerned this person will strike again. If you know anything, call Kansas City, Mo.,Men Police.
