The Hamilton cast is not throwing away its shot at the Grammys.

The cast of the groundbreaking Broadway hit about the life of Alexander Hamilton will perform the opening number of the show during the Grammys, live from the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City....so they won't technically be in the room where it happens, but it's incredibly exciting development nonetheless.

"We're going to do the opening number, scream with joy, and then celebrate the fact that we were just on the Grammys. Best night ever," creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda told USA Today.

'Hamilton's' Historic Chart Debut: By the Numbers

The Hamilton cast album is up for a Grammy for musical theater cast recording at the 2016 ceremony.

"We've never done any live performances in front of a televised audience," Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller told USA Today. "It's always been important for us to perform in context. Once [Grammy executives] said, 'We'll come to you,' we knew it would work."

Hamilton has been a once-in-a-generation smash since officially opening on Broadway last August; tickets are already sold out through most of 2016, and will likely become even harder to get after even more people are exposed to the show through the Grammys performance.

When the cast album dropped in October, it debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200, the highest debut for a cast recording since the chart combined its mono and stereo tallies in 1963.
