At least one person is dead after a low pressure system moved into Southern California Sunday night bringing damaging winds and thunderstorms. NBC San Diego reports that one person was killed in Pacific Beach when a giant tree fell onto four nearby cars. The victim was walking past and was crushed by the tree. The incident took place on the 3900 block of Ingraham Street.
That same system threatens the South this week with a potential outbreak of thunderstorms and some possible tornadoes.
These are the latest impacts:
The National Weather Service office in Oxnard, California, reported thunderstorm wind damage west of Santa Paula that took down two or three trees, trapping six cars near the intersection of Briggs and Faulkner roads.

People look at waves in Saint-Malo, western France, on February 24, 2015. France kicked off nearly a month of exceptionally large spring tides on February 21, as tourists flocked to coastal areas to witness spectacularly high water levels ahead of the so-called 'tide of the century' March 21. Unlike last year, when large spring tides coincided with enormous ocean swells that battered beaches and cliffs with waves up to 10 metres high along the French coast, no significant flooding or loss of life has been reported thus far. Despite that auspicious start, however, nearly all localities along France's Atlantic coast remain on alert for possible flooding and storm waves -- and are expected to maintain a high vigilance level to the end of the current spring tide period.
