His triumphs come amid major turmoil in Hollywood following the lack of diverse acting nominees at this year's upcoming Academy Awards which prompted the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.

Elba was seen as perhaps the biggest snub of a non-white actor going into the Oscars this year, yet, when he took the stage twice on Saturday night, he didn't mention the controversy at all.

Instead, he took the time to thank his acting peers for the honor and paid homage to the film that got him there.

"Thank you for giving this film some light, man, and love," he said.
