Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey confirms exec departures, details restructuring

Twitter's Executive Shake-Up

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey confirmed the exodus of four key executives late Sunday evening: Dorsey said in a tweet that head of product Kevin Weil, head of media Katie Stanton, SVP of engineering Alex Roetter and VP of HR Skip Schipper all had "chosen to leave the company." He added: "All four will be taking some well-deserved time off."

The departures of Weil, Stanton and Roetter had previously been reported by Recode and confirmed by other media outlets. And while Recode didn't quite spell it out like that, others including the Wall Street Journal were quick to say that Twitter had forced the executives out.

Dorsey called this "inaccurate press rumors," and Roetter himself took to Twitter to say that he had been thinking about this step for some time. Dorsey also had high praise for the executives, and painted them as essential to the growth of the company.

However, it's worth noting that Dorsey didn't mention Vine product exec Jason Toff, who is also departing, in his tweets. Toff also happens to be the only one who actually is switching to a new job: He confirmed on Twitter Sunday night that he will be working on virtual reality at Google. One could take this as a sign that the other executives were offered golden parachutes to leave the company without switching to a potential competitor right away.
