WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Carly Fiorina was accused on Wednesday of using young children as props at an anti-abortion event in Iowa without the permission of their parents, The Guardianreported.

Fiorina spoke with a crowd of more than a dozen 4- and 5-year-old children seated around her at the Iowa Right to Life Presidential Forum at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. But the children, who were at the botanical garden for a field trip, reportedly did not have permission from their parents to be at -- or part of -- the event.

"The kids went there to see the plants," Chris Beck, the father of a 4-year-old boy at the event, told The Guardian. "She ambushed my son's field trip."

In response to the parent's allegations,

Fiorina's campaign said the children at the event were given permission by "an adult supervisor."

"We were happy that these children chose to come to Carly's event with their adult supervisor," a spokeswoman said.

Fiorina's campaign is currently on life support. With just 10 days until the Iowa caucus, Fiorina places No. 10 out of 11 candidates in the GOP field in the RealClearPolitics polling average. She currently garners less than 2 percent of the vote in the polls.
