Celine Dion is taking time to mourn.

The 47-year-old singer has canceled her Jan. 16 and Jan. 17 performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in the wake of her husband's death. Dion's husband of 21 years, René Angélil, died onThursday after a long battle with cancer.

Dion is expected to return to her Las Vegas residency on Feb. 23.

"We are heartbroken to hear this news, not only because Rene was a great friend and mentor and an extraordinary partner with us in these shows at Caesars Palace for the last 13 years, but even more because he and Celine were so devoted to each other; their relationship has been a model for us all," a spokesperson for AEG said in a statement. "Rene was the most brilliant, generous and loyal partner one could have in business. And after the work was done, Rene was such a fun and joyful friend who loved to entertain, eat amazing meals, and tell great stories. There will never be another one like Rene."

Angélil died of throat cancer at his home in Henderson, Nevada, while under the care of a physician. "We have determined Mr. Angélil's death was due to natural causes," John Fudenberg, Clark County coroner, said in a statement. "No further investigation into his death is expected."

Dion only recently returned to the stage in Las Vegas after taking a year off to care for her ailing husband. As she geared up for her triumphant return last August, Dion told ET that it was actually Angélil who convinced her to continue the show. "He's been there for me all my life, and I've been there for him all my life," she said. "There's a part of me that never really left the stage. I wanted to be there but I needed to be someplace else which was much more important at that time. To be by his side. To be by my family."
