PLAINVIEW, N.Y. — More than a 1,000 people joined a lotto pool in Plainview-Old Bethpage for a chance to win the $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot.

Paying $10 a piece, they believe their odds are greater with more tickets.

"We had no idea this would get so much excitement, this is crazy," says Coordinator Ali Kusinitz.

It started on Facebook with a group of Plainview moms who just wanted the community to cash in, but they ended getting a lot of attention. Hundreds stood in line in a community park to sign up.

"We just figured if we can buy more tickets, the math would be in our favor", says Kusinitz.
