Alyssa Milano Laments U.S.' 'Archaic Mentality' Towards Breastfeeding

Alyssa Milano is continuing a breastfeeding debate she started while appearing on the "Wendy Williams Show" earlier this week.

Milano, best known for starring in TV series' "Who's the Boss" and "Charmed," told "HuffPost Live" she thinks anybody who takes issue with a woman breastfeeding her baby in public has an "archaic" mentality.

"It's so crazy to me how the mentality is so archaic, and people are just not comfortable with women breastfeeding," Milano said. "Obviously, it's because we've sexualized breasts to the point that people can't see past them being breasts. Or boobies. Or titties. Or whatever you want to call them."

Milano argued to Williams that breasts are intended for feeding, not just arousing sexual partners, but the talk show host countered that "fun bags" are "more sexual than a feeding thing."

"Breastfeeding is only a particular amount of time, [but] the rest of your life, your breasts are sexual things," Williams said.

"But biologically, they're not made for sexual things," Milano responded. "That's what we've done to them."

Milano said she was "put in the position of being a breastfeeding advocate" after she began posting on social media what she believes to be harmless photos of her breastfeeding her children.

"It was kind of shocking that [people] were that opinionated about something that is supposed to be so incredibly natural," she told Williams, who had no problem admitting she is among those "uncomfortable" with seeing public nursing.

"I don't need to see that," she said. "I just don't want to."
