Emma Stone In Talks To Play Cruella De Vil

Emma Stone is in talks to star in Disney's "Cruella de Vil," a new spin on the classic Disney villain.

Kelly Marcel is writing the script with Aline Brosh McKenna also working on an early version of the script. Plot details are vague apart from it being an origin tale for de Vil.

Andrew Gunn is producing. Kristin Burr and Jessica Virtue are overseeing for the studio.

De Vil is the villain who was obsessed with capturing the puppies in the 1961 animated classic "101 Dalmatians," intent on having their hides. Glenn Close played her in the 1996 live-action film produced by John Hughes, in which the character was updated to be the head of a fashion house.

The film is currently without a director but will look to secure one quickly in order to get the film into production by the end of the year.

Stone recently wrapped production on Lionsgate's "La La Land" opposite Ryan Gosling and is also on board to play Billie Jean King in "Battle of the Sexes" for Fox Searchlight opposite Steve Carell.

She is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Ziffren Brittenham. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news.
