Dying dog dips his paws in the Gulf Of Mexico to complete his bucket list

Terminally Ill Dog Finishes Cross-Country Bucket List Adventure

A terminally ill dog who was given just weeks to live has spent the past year traveling around the U.S. crossing items off his bucket list.

Thomas Neil Rodriguez adopted Poh in December 1999, when he was just eight weeks old.

About a year ago, Poh was diagnosed with kidney failure and the vet found two tumors in his abdomen. Rodriguez was told his 15-year-old dog would not live much longer.

To make the most of the time he had left with his long-time canine companion, Rodriguez and his fiancée decided to go on a cross-country trip with Poh.

Pop... Life is like a box of chocolates. This is the location of the bench that forest gump sat on to tell his tale while waiting for the bus :) do you recognize it??! Add another checklist to my movie site bucketlist! #pohthedogsbigadventure says you never know what you're gonna get. #forestgump
To infinity and beyond! Wait.... That's the wrong Disney property. Hanging in front of space mountain still hoping to find mickey, making sure to enjoy the journey along the way!
Life is but a dream. Took a detour to Savannah Georgia with mom and pop. Of course there will be people who question if I am enjoying myself or not. So sad when people can't recognize beauty . Thankfully, my mom and pop can. Life is beautiful, even for an old dog like me... #pohthedogsbigadventure Says thank you to all the special senior pup owners out there who make life great for us senior pups .
Our last night of 2015 almost turned into a disaster... But just like how my parents turned the negative of my tumors and kidney failure into a positive, fate turned our badluck into a blessing My parents had booked us a room at the @marriotthotels via @expedia/ @hotels.com a few days ago, everything was all set, we had our confirmation number ready to go! We had hoped to check in early at around 2:30 pm but the rooms weren't ready til 4 so we were told to come back. We had planned our doggie meet up at 4 pm so we left and planned to come back after. After a bit of fun with my fellow pups and their humans we came back to the hotel at 9:30 pm to check in, so my parents could rest up and then drive to St. Petersburg to watch some fireworks, about 30 minutes away. When we got to check in Marriott informed us that our room had been sold!!!! How was it possible??? We were stranded :( with just a few hours to midnite, my mom and dad called hotels.com, and hoped for the best. Our customer service rep jam was super helpful, but because it was new years eve and so close to midnight, getting us a hotel room was NOT easy. It was even more difficult because most hotels are not pet friendly! After an hour on hold jam was able to find us a new hotel, right near St. Petersburg, that was pet friendly. @hotelindigo, right around the block from where we were planning to spend new years eve. Turns out right around the same time we were calling, someone was cancelling their nye plans, and we were able to scoop up an even better room then where we were supposed to be staying!🐶❤️ You can never predict what's going to happen, just hope that everything happens for a reason, and all we can do is play the cards we get and make the best of them in this game called life.... #pohthedogsbigadventure says happy new year!
When my parents brought me on #pohthedogsbigadventure , our first goal was to get me in the Pacific Ocean. Well , we did that, twice . We also were able to reverse my kidney failure, get my liver values normal. We spent almost everyday together for this past year, and made great memories which we got to share with all of you that follow me here. Today with some help from @bugthedoberman @eddieswheels cart, I get to stand in the ocean on last time for 2015, with my mom and pop. When you focus on living... Oh the things you will get to do. Happy new year everyone! Life is for living!
Doing my daily routine with a change of scenery makes all the difference. Out in Charleston SC. New sounds, new smells, different terrain:) I did some short Hill repeats to work my butt muscles! Just joking, that was my dad cause he's working that holiday gut off! When I got back from my first trip my longtime vet up in Jersey city told my parents if she could prescribe a cross country trip for all her patients in my position she would! Who would have known back then that my journey had so many chapters. Next stop, Beaufort south Carolina!
Santa said I'm going to get my wish this Christmas! We are going to head down to Tampa and St Petersburg, to visit my vet @dr_buzbys_toegrips and take one more swim in the ocean before the new year! My friends on instagram, can you tell us of anything going on outdoors on new years near St. Petersburg or Clearwater where my parents can enjoy new years eve with me? Fireworks, or a nice boardwalk etc etc? Dog friendly hotels... #pohthedogsbigadventure says happy holidays! Photo by :@rememberwhenfamilyphoto
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a pohbear was stirring... #pohthedogsbigadventure says goodnite!
Usually my cart is a one seater but it's a party! These are my corgi buddies @wallythewelshcorgi #Hazel_bear @eric_abyolo , we're at the ugly sweater party at @barkbox
While my parents are watching #starwars movie, I wear this costume and play with Chewbacca
Today we took a quick drive to Philly and took some family pics :) I learned how to say love in Spanish! #pohthedogsbigadventure feels amor :) picture by @jkot8288

"There was really only one important item on the bucket list, everything else was just part of the journey," Rodriguez told INSIDE EDITION. "We wanted Poh to dip his paws in the Pacific Ocean and swim for the first time."

Poh's journey was documented on an Instagram account created specifically for his adventures.

As the trio drove from coast to coast more stops were made and more items were added to the bucket list. They stopped at major landmarks along the way, including the Washington Monument, Graceland, Bourbon Street, the Seattle Space Needle, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Route 66 sign.

Poh recently crossed off the final item of the bucket list by going for a swim in the Gulf of Mexico.

"Initially we didn't think Poh would even make it a week or two. We were actually given a timeline of days," Rodriguez told INSIDE EDITION, "He has now been with us almost one year since being diagnosed with kidney failure. As long as he can, we will enjoy our lives together to the fullest."
