Fast Food Has More Calories Than People Think

Now that the New Year has started, many people will want to stick to their resolutions, such as losing weight or eating healthily.

But although some fast food items are healthy, it's very easy to go wrong with fast food and have a few meals undermine your resolutions.

We looked at nutritional data from restaurant chains to find the worst of the worst. Over time, some nutritional data may change slightly — but these items are still high in calories.

Find out which items have the most calories, fat, saturated fat, sodium, and cholesterol.

You'll want to steer clear of them if you're watching your waistline.

Posted by Mountain Island Chick-fil-A on Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Calories: 810
Fat: 54 g
Saturated Fat: 20 g
Sodium: 1,850 mg
Cholesterol: 385 mg

While this breakfast platter may not veer as closely to 1,000 calories as some other breakfast platters, it is still way too many calories. This meal contains roughly the recommended amount of daily fat intake, and it's just breakfast! Fortunately, there are less caloric options on Chick-Fil-A's menu.

Shake Shack's Double SmokeShack Burger

Calories: 850
Fat: 56 g
Saturated Fat: 23 g
Sodium: 1,895 mg
Cholesterol: 195 mg

Shake Shack burgers are delicious, but they can be pretty caloric. Adding a second patty will cost you more than 250 calories. Nixing the bacon on a SmokeShack burger for a double Shack Burger (pictured right) can also save you a few calories. This calorie count doesn't even include fries, custard, or a soda.

Taco Bell's XXL Grilled Stuft Burrito

Calories: 860
Fat: 41 g
Saturated Fat: 14 g
Sodium: 2200
Cholesterol: 65 mg

Taco Bell's Cinnabon Delights

Calories: 930
Fat: 53 g
Saturated Fat: 13 g
Sodium: 480 mg
Cholesterol: 40 mg

Subway's Foot-Long Spicy Italian Sub

Calories: 960
Fat: 48 g
Saturated Fat: 18 g
Sodium: 2,980 mg
Cholesterol: 100 mg

Subway advertises that it is a healthy choice for fast food, but this 12-inch sandwich has close to 1,000 calories. Subway offers the nutritional data for only the 6-inch sub, so if you're extra hungry, you might want to do the calorie math first.

Chop't Cobb Salad Sandwich

Calories: Approximately 910
Fat: Approximately 49 g
Saturated Fat: 16.5
Sodium: 1990 mg
Cholesterol: 375 mg

Take the already-610-calorie Cobb salad, and make it a salad sandwich with 300-calorie bread (although Chop't says that salad sandwiches have half the lettuce and half the dressing than their salad counterparts, which will likely help scrape a few calories off of the total). A "healthy meal" is now nearly 1,000 calories! Who knew you could get a meal at McDonald's for less calories than at Chop't?

Panera Bread's Mac & Cheese

Calories: 980
Fat: 61 g
Saturated Fat: 26 g
Sodium: 2,030 mg

Calories: 1,080

Saturated Fat: 20 g

Calories: 1,090
Fat: 56 g
Saturated Fat: 19 g
Sodium: 2,150 mg

Fat: 73 g
Saturated Fat: 30 g
Sodium: 1,990 mg
Cholesterol: 260 mg

Not only does this burger have more than 1,000 calories, it also has four grams of trans fat. Choosing to eat a burger with only a single patty helps eliminate some fat.

Fat: 75 g
