10 best live performances of 2015

1. Lady Gaga - "Sound of Music" medly live at the Oscars: No other performance brought down the house (read: world) more than Gaga's top-notch medley of songs from "Sound of Music" at the Oscars. Continuing her streak of embodying a more restrained aesthetic in her public appearances, Lady Gaga sounded absolutely perfect and proved her doubters wrong yet again. Bravo!

2. Justin Timberlake & Chris Stapleton - "Tennessee Whiskey" & "Drink You Away" live at the CMAs: No performance made us wish we were in the audience more this year than this one. Timberlake brought a little bit of his Memphis flare to Nashville, and country music's biggest stars absolutely loved it. It was a rockin' performance that we'll be rewatching well into 2016.

3. Adele - "Water Under The Bridge" live on "Saturday Night Live"Adele finished off her historic "25" release week with a show-stopping performance on "SNL." Simple, refined and powerful, Adele's performance was all about her defining characteristic: Her voice.

4. Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - "Uptown Funk" live on "The Ellen Show"No song was as inescapable as "Uptown Funk" was in 2015, and though Mars and Ronson performed the songs multiple times this year, our favorite was when they got the audience involved for a lively rendition on Ellen Degeneres' talk show.
5. Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney - "FourFiveSeconds" live at the Grammys: We still might not have new albums from Rihanna or Kanye West, but we did get a few new songs, the best of which was "FourFiveSeconds." Seeing this influential trio on stage together (and getting the crowd up on their feet for the entirety of the performance) was truly something special.

6. John Legend & Common - "Glory" live at the Oscars: "Glory" was the darling song of the 2015 awards season, and rightfully so. The stunningly powerful song written and recorded for "Selma" provided for one of the night's best live performances.

7. Katy Perry & Missy Elliott - Medley live at the Superbowl Halftime Show: Katy Perry may not have released any new music this year, but her performance during the Superbowl Halftime Show was one for the ages -- made even better by a surprise appearance by the legendary MC Missy Elliott. Though she hadn't released an album in 10 years, Elliott never missed a beat. Thus began our favorite comeback of the year.

8. The Weeknd & Nicki Minaj - "The Hills (Remix)" live at "Saturday Night Live"This was a huge year for the Toronto-born rapper, and his "SNL" performances were some of the year's best. When he brought out Minaj as a surprise, the crowd went wild at Studio 1A and the pair's chemistry on stage was fun to watch.

9. One Direction - "Torn" live on BBC Radio 1: The boys' hiatus may have just begun, but before they left they gave us a ton of memorable performances this fall, including this one at BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge. "Torn" was the first song One Direction ever sang together on the "X Factor," and this was the first time they'd sung it in years.

10. Justin Bieber - "Where Are Ü Now" & "What Do You Mean?" live at the VMAs: As we all know, the Biebs made his major, apology-laiden comeback this year, and one of his biggest moments came at the MTV Video Music Awards. After an explosive performance of the first single from Purpose (lest anyone forget that Justin Bieber is an amazing dancer), Bieber broke down on stage.
