Friends of Star Wars star John Boyega didn't realize how prominent the actor's role would be in the The Force Awakens.

On Friday night's episode of Tonight Show, Boyega told host Jimmy Fallon that his friends thought he was an extra in the film due to the secrecy of the project. "I couldn't tell anyone: family, friends, I had to keep it a secret."

"This is what's so funny. They showed a lot of respect and attention, but I took them to the London premiere and after the premiere, they were just like, 'Yo John! I never knew you were in the movie for so long. I thought you were an extra,'" Boyega told Fallon.

The actor continued, "I'm like, 'All this time I was leaving Monday to Friday. What did you think I was doing?'" he said of filming for the past two years.

After wrapping his visit on the late night show, Boyega said he would surprise fans at New York theaters. "I'm going to go over to a few theaters in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and I'm going to meet some people and just say thank you. This is big. I feel the love. I really really do."
