Stephen Colbert returned from his late-night break last week, and one of the first things he did was address the San Bernardino shooting, which killed at least 14 people in the deadliest shooting on American soil since Sandy Hook. As is his wont, Colbert was characteristically thoughtful. He defended the importance of thoughts and prayers, and suggested that the nation should have stricter gun-control laws without actually saying the phrase "gun control," whose utterance would no doubt send the nation into paroxysmal seizures.
