'Orange Is the New Black' star faces assault charges after allegedly attacking a teen girl
Orange Is the New Black star Dascha Polanco appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on Thursday to face charges of assault and harassment, ET confirms.
On July 29, Polanco, 33, allegedly attacked a 17-year-old girl on her "face and head with a closed fist at least three times," according to court papers.
Polanco, who plays Dayanara Diaz on the hit Netflix dramedy, was arraigned on assault, attempted assault and harassment charges. The actress was released without bail and was ordered by a judge to steer clear of the teen.

The criminal complaint filed claims that Polanco hit the teen in the face with both an open and closed fist, pulled her hair, and scratched her arms. Suffering from from alleged "bruising, redness, and substantial pain," the girl later sought medical care.
According to Polanco's attorney, Gerald Lefcourt, the teen attempted to extort money from the Netflix star following the alleged altercation. Lefcourt tells ET that since the girl called Polanco "asking for money to withdraw the charges" the case will "eventually be dismissed."
