Jared Leto has big shoes to fill when he plays The Joker in the upcoming film, "Suicide Squad."

While the actor has already won over many fans with his creepy, tattooed depiction — it's the actors who have played the iconic character before him who he wishes to impress.

Leto posted a black and white image on Instagram Monday featuring Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger as the Batman villain with the caption: "Don't worry, Leto will make us proud."

Ledger played the part in 2008's "The Dark Knight," which was released after his death, while Nicholson's role in 1989's Batman alongside Michael Keaton.

For his portrayal, a heavily made-up Leto flaunts a mop of bright green hair and is covered in tattoos, most notably a twisted smile on his stomach.

"Suicide Squad," written and directed by David Ayer, hits theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.

The new take on the comic book movie genre also stars Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Scott Eastwood, Ben Affleck, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis,Common, Ike Barinholtz and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, among others.
