ET caught up with the designer himself, who exclusively dished on the 38-year-old Magic Mike star's reaction to Vergara in his curve-hugging creation.
"Joe did not come in with her [to the fitting], I think he was out doing his own shopping, but Sofia just wanted to make sure that she felt that he would just love it when he saw it on her," Zunino shared. "Somebody messaged me from the wedding when she had put it on, and said that his eyes just fell out of his head [when he saw her]. He thought she looked so sexy."
"It's exactly what we wanted," he added.
Zunino shared exclusive pictures of Vergara's fitting, and it's safe to the 43-year-old Modern Family star was absolutely stunning.
And check out a close-up view of the intricate beading on the blush pink creation.
"We had four women working three weeks on it," Zunino revealed about the labor involved for the dress to come together. "There were a lot of hours in the dress. We started with the beaders that were hand-beading the lace. We had the women that were sculpting the corset to her body, then we had women who were cutting all the layers of the skirt, and it's cut biased so you have to let it hang and stretch and do all of these things. So it was quite a process to make this all happen."
Although it's safe to say the dress turned out perfect, Zunino shared that Vergara was actually hesitant about the dress looking "too young."
"The piece that she loved the most was the piece that at first she was not so sure about -- the big tulled layered organza skirt," he revealed. "We had about 14 layers and there was over 60 yards of fabric in the skirt, and it was very full and very bouncy and she loved it. She loved playing with it."
"But she was also concerned that it looked a little young," he admitted. "She said, 'This is not a silhouette that I normally wear.'"
The actress has been vocal in the past about being particular about the types of dresses she prefers, especially given her curvaceous figure.
"Sometimes you read in the press like, 'Oh, Sofía is wearing again the same shape dress,' and I want to answer them and say, 'What the f**k do you want me to wear?'" she told Vanity Fair in April. "Obviously there's a reason why that's what I go for."
"My whole life, buying a bra was a nightmare," Vergara added. "What I used to do when I moved to L.A., I found places like Frederick's of Hollywood that make bras for [strippers]. Believe me, I wish I had fake boobs."
But according to Zunino, she was as far from a bridezilla as you can get, despite knowing exactly what she wanted.
"Sofia didn't seem nervous," he recalled. "And I think the big difference was that she's just fun. She really just left caution to the wind. She's not one of those brides that worry about everything. She just knew she wanted to have fun, and I just think everything just fell in place because of it."
