Pearl Jam changes lyrics, dedicates 'Love Boat Captain' to Paris attack victims

Top 10 Pearl Jam Songs

Pearl Jam's "Love Boat Captain," a song off their 2002 album Riot Act, is about a tragedy that hit the band close to home. Nine fans died in a Pearl Jam crowd at Denmark's Roskilde Festival in 2000 and the track was written as their memorial. Playing São Paulo, Brazil, the day after the Paris shootings (Nov. 14), P.J. decided to rework "Love Boat Captain" into an elegy for the hundred-plus lives lost.

Vedder utilized a little Portuguese to introduce the song. Once "Love Boat Captain" began, he revealed some new lyrics. Typically, the frontman alters the line, "Lost nine friends we'll never know, two years ago today" to reflect the amount of years since 2000. This time, he sang, ""Lost 90 friends we'll never know, oh, again today."
