When Christian Bale was 13 years old, a budding teen star with his first major movie under his belt (Empire of the Sun), he managed to land a date with fellow teen star Drew Barrymore.

Sadly, after one date she never called him back. He never forgot, really; that early mystifying memory of rejection and a love derailed haunted him for decades after. He even brought it up in a 2012 interview with Australian GQ."We went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it. She never called again," he told the magazine, while his brain started replaying a black-and-white reel of him clutching his large, silent late-'80s cell phone and then running home to check the tape in his answering machine.

Now Bale can finally stop living in an Adele video. While chatting with Andy Cohen on last night's Watch What Happens Live, Barrymore explained the situation:

"I don't know! He was so nice. I wasn't like, super boy crazy. I had a lot of fish to fry. I had big problems in my world for many years — like, in good ways — things you gotta overcome. Boys [were] like very secondary."

Rest assured, Christian, it really wasn't you — it was just your entire gender.
