'Spectre' to Become the Biggest Hit of 2015 at the U.K Box Office

Not until the Hunger Games finale lands in two weeks will Spectre's dominance of the U.K. box office have any likely cause for concern.

After a record-breaking opening week, the 24th James Bond installation continued its strong run in Britain into week two, adding a further $19.9 million to bring its total to $96.9 million so far. On Monday, it topped Jurassic World's total cume of $97.3 million to become the biggest film of the year in Britain, an achievement that only Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to beat.

At the moment, Spectre is managing what many thought too daunting a task: beating 2012's Skyfall, still the biggest film of all time in the U.K. The previous 007 film stood at $93.9 million after two weeks, yet saw a smaller drop in its numbers from week one to week two (20 percent, compared with Spectre's 34 percent). The jury is still very much out on whether Spectre can hang on to top Skyfall's $156 million U.K total.

Elsewhere, new entry Brooklyn was the week's other major success. The Oscar-tipped Saoirse Ronan drama scooped $1.6 million in its debut off the back of strong reviews, more than the week's other new entries (Burnt and Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse combined). Brooklyn landed just behind Hotel Transylvania 2, which added $1.7 million in its second week.

In fourth, meanwhile, Pan took its four-week box-office revenue to $11.9 million with an additional $800,000. And while the Bradley Cooper vehicle Burnt limped out of the kitchen on its opening weekend with just under $700,000, it was enough to push The Martian out of the top five for the first time in its six-week run. Ridley Scott's space epic has amassed $33.3 million in the U.K. so far.
