Coming off the heels of a cast reunion on the "Today Show," we are left wondering...what ever happened to the fair haired, bright-eyed main character, Charlie?
Peter Ostrum (aka the original Charlie) was just 12-years-old when he was discovered by casting agents at a Cleveland children's theater. From there, he dazzled on the big screen as Charlie Bucket in the 1971 film, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."
Despite his performance in the cult classic, Ostrum shockingly walked away from the film industry after this. While he remains close with most of the cast (even 44 years later), he admits that the Hollywood scene just wasn't for him.
%shareLinks-quote="After the film, I always denied my involvement with 'Willy Wonka,'" he admits with a chuckle. "I didn't really want to have anything to do with it." type="quote" author="Peter Ostrum" authordesc="The Huffington Post" isquoteoftheday="false"%
Now 58, Ostrum lives in upstate New York with his wife Loretta, daughter Helenka, and son Leif. He is a practicing veterinarian, and is barely unrecognizable from his young boyish self.
