NY attorney general declares daily fantasy sports gambling and illegal

Attorney General Says DraftKings and FanDuel Must Cease Operating

Well, daily fantasy sports has suffered a huge blow.

After opening a probe into daily fantasy sites DraftKings and FanDuel recently, New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman has declared that daily fantasy sports is gambling and illegal.

He has also demanded that DraftKings and FanDuel must cease operations and taking action in New York.

This is an absolutely huge blow to daily fantasy sports. While many have contended that they should have the right to play daily fantasy sports and that it is a game of skill, Schneiderman's investigation has concluded that it is an illegal practice and must cease immediately.

The fallout of this is big as both companies have offices in New York and FanDuel has their headquarters there. Losing the New York customer base could be potentially crippling to the company, especially if other states follow suit and if the federal government rules it illegal.

Whatever may be next FanDuel or DraftKings certainly does not look promising at this point for their future. Daily fantasy sports has exploded over recent year, but it might be finally be exploding for good.
