Caitlyn Jenner: "Maybe This Is Why God Put Me on This Earth"

Caitlyn Jenner wasn't a name that anyone in the world knew just six months ago.

That's what presenter Judith Light pointed out before presenting Jenner with one of Glamour's 2015 Women of the Year Awards on Monday. As Jenner herself explained in her acceptance speech, it took a lot of self-reflection to get to a point where she was comfortable introducing that name to the world.

"I came to the conclusion that maybe this was why God put me on this earth -- to tell my story, to be my authentic self, and maybe in doing that, [I] could make a difference in the world," she explained. "What a great opportunity in life to have."

For years, Jenner says, she didn't feel like herself. She "had lost [her] enthusiasm for life" and locked herself up in her Malibu home unsure of what to do next, how to find happiness again.

"I thought, 'What can i do with my life?'," she revealed. "I sat each one of my ten children down and said, 'This is my story; This is who I am. What can I do?' I sat down with my pastor and talked to him about my issues. And, yes, I had a lot of conversations with God."

And those conversations have resulted in "the best decision [Jenner] ever made." For almost six years, she said in her speech, she didn't want to leave her home. She hated going out and dealing with the world. But now that's completely changed.

"All of a sudden, I like going out and I like being myself."

And this new life has brought with it more than a handful of new little things Jenner has had to adjust to. Some of those things? New questions about her style and fashion and deciding whether or not she was a feminist. In her words, "she had so much to learn."

But now she's adjusted, and proof of that adjustment comes in "the little things in life that you notice," like getting a driver's license, for example. As Jenner revealed in her acceptance speech at Monday's ceremony, she just got her updated ID last week!

"I hadn't been on the airlines for over a year," she disclosed. "Why? Because I didn't have an authentic ID. Finally, last week, I got my driver's license! Picture and gender marker: F!"

She continued, "For the first time, reading Glamour magazine, and not having to fold the cover over [was another little win]. Thank you, Glamour magazine, for honoring me tonight. Never in a million years did I think I would be here -- and I'm sure you didn't either."

We may not have expected it, but as Light said in her presentation of the award to Jenner, "by sending the signal that you can believe in yourself -- that you can and must be yourself -- Caitlyn Jenner is changing the culture. She is saving lives like the all-American hero that she is."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
