Sometimes you get lucky when shopping and come across a top that is not only cool but also affordable, like this sculptural COS wool number. With its dramatic pleating and heavy fabric, it's the kind of artsy piece that could easily be mistaken for something costing well into the hundreds. And since it's in a sedate shade of dark gray, it feels appropriate enough to wear to the office. Here it's paired with slim black trousers, but you could also play with volume and try it with wide-legged pants or contrast its billowy shape with the skirt from your suit.

To finish off, these Banana Republic oxfords add a masculine touch to the minimalist outfit. They're currently sold out online but available at select stores. Should you rather not hunt them down, these Cole Haan woven lace-ups or these black-and-white Robert Clergeries are also great substitutions.

COS pleat detail wool top, $135 at COS; 3.1 Phillip Lim carrot pant, $375 at 3.1 Phillip Lim; Banana Republic lace-up oxfords, $128 at select Banana Republic locations, for similar try Cole Haan Jagger weave oxfords, $228 at Cole Haan or Robert Clergerie Jasi lace-up oxfords, $550 at Forward.
