Quentin Tarantino denounces 'blue wall' of cops

Quentin Tarantino continued to defends his remarks about police brutality on Friday, denouncing a "blue wall" of silence about problems "inside the institution itself."

Appearing on "Real Time With Bill Maher," the outspoken director referred to the problem of police shooting unarmed people as a "hydra."

He continued: "The biggest head that needs to be chopped off first is this blue wall idea. The idea that they protect their own rather than put themselves at the betterment of citizenry. I think it's inside the institution itself."

Maher invited Tarantino -- who is facing a national police boycott over his remarks that cops killing unarmed citizens are "murderers" -- to discuss the controversy, noting that he was familiar with being targeted for speaking his mind.

The director has been defiant about his remarks, even while clarifying that he doesn't think all police authorities are murderers. But police unions have demanded a direct apology and maintained their boycotts.

He said: "They're implying that I meant that all cops are murderers. The sad thing is we need to talk to the cops about this."

Tarantino's new movie "The Hateful Eight" opens in late December.
