5 things we learned about 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

First Photos from 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

A small ray of light has been shed on "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," the latest film entry in the "Harry Potter" universe.

The new film, starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, and Colin Farrell, won't premiere until Nov. 2016. But Entertainment Weekly offered Potter fans an inside look at the film over a year ahead of its release in the Nov. 13 issue of the magazine.

TheWrap breaks down the five biggest revelations from the story, including what American witches and wizards call muggles, and what famous wizard may be appearing in the new franchise.

Movie Deals with Bigotry Against Wizards

One of the primary antagonists in the film will be Mary Lou (Samantha Morton), the leader of a group called the New Salem Philanthropic Society, or the Second Salemers. The group takes its name from the infamous Salem witch trials and seeks to expose and destroy the wizarding world.

Muggles Are Not Muggles in the U.S.

As "Fantastic Beasts" takes place in New York in the 1920's, it is only natural that some of the wizard slang made famous in the "Harry Potter" series would be slightly different across the pond. While non-magical people are called muggles in Britain, they are referred to as no-majs (pronounced madge) stateside.

Redmayne Trained with Real Zookeepers

To prepare for his role as magizoologist Newt Scamander, Redmayne spent time with real animal trainers and zookeepers. "The most endearing thing is watching Eddie interact with the beasts," Waterston said. "It's so beautiful. He's worked out all these different dynamics with them."

The Cast Got to Take Wand Classes

In order to look like authentic witches and wizards, those in the cast playing magical characters not only got to choose their own wands, but also underwent wand classes. Redmayne picked a simple wooden wand, while Waterston requested something a little heavier. Farrell also revealed that he found himself walking around in his bathrobe with his wand in hand.

Dumbledore Lives!

Well, sort of. According to producer David Heyman, there won't be too many familiar faces from the Potterverse in this film as it's set so far in the past. However, at least one line of dialogue will mention a promising young wizard named Albus Dumbledore.
