Donald Trump says 'SNL' hosting gig was originally just 1-skit guest spot

Donald Trump is set to host "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, but the gig was originally intended to just be a guest spot for one skit — much like Hillary Clinton's walk-on earlier this season.

"Actually, it started off as a skit, and I said 'Alright, I'll do it'," Trump told Chris Cuomo on Wednesday's "New Day." "And they took it up to Lorne Michaels — who's an amazing guy, he's run 'Saturday Night Live' brilliantly for many years and he's a friend of mine — and he said, 'Well wait a minute, Donald's agreeing to do the skit. Will he do the whole thing?'" And he called me and said, 'Will you host Saturday Night Live' and I said, 'It's an honor.'"

Hispanic groups have been calling on NBC to remove Trump as host, as has Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez. A protest is planned this week.

Trump's "SNL" kicks off Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC. Sia is the musical guest.

The Republican also continuously blasted CNN reporter Sara Murray repeatedly throughout the two-part interview, calling her "terrible," among many other unflattering adjectives. Cuomo, whose family has a history with the Trumps, defended his colleague.

The insults weren't saved just for Murray — Trump also took shots at other candidates during the lengthy cable news telephone appearance.
