State trooper comforts children after parents die in tragic Halloween accident

A state trooper in Georgia went above and beyond the line of duty when he was called to the scene of a tragic car accident on Halloween.

When Donald and Crystal Howard left their house in Morgan County on Halloween night, it was supposed to be a quick trip. The parents left their home in Newborn to grab some more face paint and Halloween candy from a local store, reports WXIA.

However, tragedy struck when their SUV flew off the road and hit a nearby tree, killing them instantly.

When Bradley knocked on the door of their family home, he told WXIA that his heart dropped.

Bradley was able to get permission from their grandmother not to tell the kids about their parents' tragedy just yet.

"The first thing I said was, 'Hey lets go get something to eat,'" he told WXIA. "They said, 'My parents will be here soon.' I said, 'Your Grandma wants you to hang out with me till she gets here.'"

The four children, who ranged in age from 6 to 13, were treated to a dinner, movies and Halloween candy at the state trooper's post and continued with a sleepover. Bradley told WXIA that the kindness came from the bottom of his heart.

The children were told of their parent's untimely deaths when their grandmother arrived the next morning.

But Bradley's acts of kindness towards the family went even further than that fateful Halloween night. The trooper has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses. The page raised over $52,000 in its first day.

Crystal and Donald are planned to be buried in Florida, which is where the children are moving to with their grandparents.

Although four children lost their parents on Halloween, they were able to make at least one new lifelong friend and supporter in Trooper Nathan Bradley.
