Proposed jet could travel from NYC to London in 30 minutes
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's -- a jet that could go from NYC to London in 30 minutes!
Long haul travel could soon be a thing of the past if the concept for a new high speed jet gets off the ground. That means a commute from NYC to London could take just a mere half hour.
The supersonic jet is called the Screemr -- yes, the Screemr -- and the concept comes from Canadian engineer and inventor Charles Bombardier, who wants to cut his NYC to London commute time.
The Screemr would have four wings, two rear rockets, and carry up to 75 brave souls who want to get to their tea and crumpets that much quicker! After taking off via a proposed electric launching system, the rockets would ignite the engine, allowing the aircraft to reach speeds up to about 7,673 MPH.
However, don't start booking your trip to meet the Royal Family yet, the Screemr is just a concept for now.
The "scramjet" designs are only being developed for military planes and drones, though it's Bombardier's dream to test the model on human transportation.
For now if you want to see the Queen's guards up close and personal, you're gonna have to endure that long flight to the U.K. for at least a little bit longer.
